Boyz II Men Singer Defends Gina Rodriguez Using The N-Word: ‘She’s Black’

While the song wasn’t the problem, many felt that she shouldn’t have said the n-word. The star received a ton of backlash on social media, with many pointing out why she was wrong. However, there were a few people who defended her like, Boyz II Men singer Shawn Stockman.
TMZ recently caught up with him and asked him about the situation. He told explained to the cameraman,
“Here’s my thing. She was singing a song, and if you’re gonna sing a song, make sure that you censor yourself. We can all censor ourselves. He went on to say, “But as far as I’m concerned, she’s Latina, right? Latina are black. A lot of people don’t want to acknowledge it.” The cameraman did point out that that her ethnic background is Puerto Rican. Shawn replied, “She’s black!”
Before sharing why she Gina gets a pass, he went on to give us a little history lesson.
“She’s from Puerto Rico? Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Dominicans, Mexicans, believe it or not, they all…we all here,” he said, while pointing to his skin to emphasize the color. “Just look at the history.”
