Bronx Teen Dies After Saving Little Girl From Burning Building
A Bronx teen risked his own life to save another.
ABC 7 reports that Lucas Silverio, 19, woke up early Sunday morning to a fire burning through his building. After helping his grandmother get out the building, Lucas went back up 14 floors and carried out a badly burned 3-year-old girl, who sadly died a day later.
Lucas passed away on Wednesday from his injuries.
“He was a wonderful human being,” said cousin Jesse Alvarez. “A heart of gold. His heart was the size, it couldn’t fit in his body.”
Apparently, the young man was carrying their grandmother down 15 floors when he spotted the baby.
“Lucas told Jeury, ‘bro take mamma downstairs, I’m gonna go back and get the little girl,'” said Alvarez.
He then went and carried the young girl through the smoke and gave her to paramedics, however, in the midst of it all there was an explosion that made him unconscious.
Lucas and the girl suffered 80% burns on their body.
Police believe that someone might have thrown something flammable into the trash compactor, however, they are still investigating the cause.
