California Fire Prompts 13,000 Evacuations

California Fire Prompts 13,000 Evacuations

At least 13,000 people have been forced to evacuate due to the Saddleridge Brush Fire, which started in Sylmar along the 210 Freeway last night.

Official report that around 12,700 homes are facing mandatory evacuation in Porter Ranch, Reseda to De Soto, Oakridge Estates and west of Balboa, north Sesnon to the Ventura County border.

According to KTLA one death has been reported so far. The person has only been identified as a civilian male, who died from cardiac arrest. Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Ralph Terrazas said during a 7:45 a.m. press conference that one firefighter also suffered a minor eye injury.

Schools and freeways have been forced to close until the fire is contained.

The following Los Angeles Unified School District schools will be closed:

  • Castlebay Lane Elementary
  • Danube Avenue Elementary
  • El Oro Way Elementary
  • Haskell Elementary
  • Knollwood Elementary
  • Porter Ranch Community School
  • Van Gogh Elementary
  • Frost Middle School
  • John F. Kennedy High School
  • Rinaldi Adult Learning Center

As of now, the cause of the fire has not been determined.
