Canada To Fast-Track Pardons For Tens Of Thousands Carrying Weed Possession Charges After Legalization
While Canada’s officially legalized marijuana earlier this week, some tens of thousands convicted for simple marijuana possession will receive accelerated pardons.
Additionally, thanks to The Cannabis Act, orchestrated in part by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada is now the second country, worldwide, to legalize the plant.
Furthermore, the federal public safety minister Ralph Goodale stated, “We will be proposing another new law to make things fairer for Canadians who have been previously convicted of simple possession of cannabis; removing the stigma of a criminal record for people who have served their sentence, and then shown themselves to be law-abiding citizens enhancing public safety for all Canadians.”
Also; the proposed law will excuse the roughly 500,000 Canadians arrested for simple possession from the government’s $631 pardon fee, and expedite the entire ordeal.
