Cause Of Death Revealed In Murder Of NYC Woman Stuffed In Suitcase
While the incident occurred in February, the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner updated this Monday (May 6) that the Valerie Reyes, a 24-year-old New Rochelle, NY woman whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase on the side of the road, died due to homicidal asphyxia.
Additionally, authorities have in custody her ex-boyfriend Javier Da Silva, 24, as the suspect who allegedly admitted to his role in murdering his ex and stuffing her in the suitcase.
While Da Silva tells police Reyes fell during sex and hit her head, causing her to die; the medical examiner’s office hasn’t specified if the victim died before being stuffed into a suitcase or if she suffocated while bound and trapped inside.
Furthermore, Da Silva remains in federal custody, and prosecutors are discussing a possible plea deal to “find a resolution of the case without a trial.”
