Celebrities Buy Out Theaters For Charleston Church Shooting Documentary
Major stars such as, Justin Timberlake, Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, Laverne Cox, Tyrese, and LL Cool J are buying out movie theaters for screenings of “Emanuel,” which is a documentary that sheds light on the Charleston church shooting.
The film which is produced by Viola Davis and Steph Curry surrounds the events of June 17, 2015, when Dylan Roof, 21, walked into Bible study at the Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, SC, and shot to death nine African-Americans during the closing prayer.
Page Six reports that the celebrities are buying out all of the sea†s for nine showings throughout the U.S. and giving the tickets to “local organizations and communities.”
According to Page Six, the celebrities got involved because the documentary shares an important message that many to be aware of.
“We, along with the country, grieved each family’s loss,” Viola Davis and her husband, Julius Tennon, previously told Essence. “Yet, miraculously, from this devastation we witnessed tremendous benchmarks of humanity. The survivors found courage to love in the face of hate.”
Other celebs who are getting involved include Yvette Nicole Brown, Nick Cannon, and Martin Lawrence. The theaters are reportedly located in Memphis, Tenn.; Cleveland; Los Angeles; Mobile, Ala.; New York City, Richmond Heights, Ohio; Washington, DC; San Diego, Calif., and Hanover, Maryland.
