Charlamagne Tha God Rape Accuser Wants Case Re-Opened

Morning radio show host Charlamagne Tha God is being faced with his rape accuser wanting their case re-opened years after it was closed.

Charlamagne was arrested seventeen years ago on a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor after then 15-year-old girl Jessica Reid accused him of rape. The future radio/tv personality went on to plead guilty to a much lesser charge due to the victim’s lack of co-operation in the prosecution. However, the alleged victim is all grown up now and wants the criminal case against the best-selling author re-opened.

A Care2 petition was also launched Wednesday (July 11) in support of Reid that demands the firing of Charlamagne from his hit morning radio show “The Breakfast Club”. According to documents obtained by The Blast, Charlamagne Tha God (born Lenard Larry McKelvey) was arrested on July 2, 2001, on a warrant stemming from a charge of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the 2nd degree. The charge stemmed from an incident that allegedly occurred in June 2001.

The documents accused the then 22-year-old Charlamagne of “willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously engage in penile/vaginal intercourse with a fifteen year old female child.”

Documents say that the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the victim’s mother on Jun 9, 2001, after she was told her daughter was sexually assaulted. The 15-year-old girl was taken to the local hospital where examinations by doctors confirmed that a sexual assault had occurred. The hospital obtained a statement from the girl implicating Charlamagne in the alleged assault.

According to the police report, cops responded to the Short Stay Naval Recreational Center in Charleston, South Carolina on the early morning of June 9, 2001, in response to an alleged rape. They saw two females, one of them being Jessica Reid, and said they appeared very intoxicated and did not know where they were or how they got to the location.

Reid was “crying uncontrollably” and her friend explained that someone had picked them up from a nearby residence and “gave them a liquid to drink” that one of the girls claimed “tasted like soda.”

Reid’s friend said the last thing she remembered was waking up “with a man trying to kiss her.”

She told the officer she fought the man off, and then found Reid “in the room across from where she was, naked and crying stating that she had been raped.”

The girl then called her mom, who called 911. During the case, Reid was uncooperative with the prosecution and, as a result, Charlamagne pled guilty to a lesser charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and was sentenced to 3 years of probation. The case was disposed of in 2002.

Now 32-year-old Jessica Reid says she never received closure on the incident and has not “been able to get over it.” Reid’s mother, Joslyn, tells The Blast that she wanted to protect her daughter from stress and suffering which is why she stopped her from cooperating in the prosecution.

However, now Joslyn says she supports her daughter “100%” and believes closure is needed to truly end Jessica’s “suffering and pain.”

Reid is now seeking legal representation in efforts of re-opening the criminal case against Charlamagne. Although too much time has passed for a civil case, South Carolina has no statute of limitations on prosecution for criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

The outspoken NY Times Bestselling Author previously addressed the inciden during an interview with DJ Akademiks and was adamant that he did not commit the crime. But Joslyn says the narrative the radio personality gave in the interview was “very hurtful,” and claims it further contributed to her daughter’s suffering.

During the initial investigation, Charlamagne submitted DNA and cooperated in the case. He has since maintained his innocence in not sexually assaulting Jessica Reid.
