It’s official! The Eddie Murphy classic will be revamped and coming to a theater near you in the summer of 2020!
Paramount confirmed the news Monday that the untitled “Coming to America” sequel will open on August 7th, 2020! Plus, there’s good news because Eddie Murphy will be reprising his memorable role as Akeem, the African prince who travels to Queens, New York to find true love after refusing an arranged marriage.
Kenya Barris is set to rewrite the script while Craig Brewer will wear his director’s hat. Murphy will also produce alongside Kevin Misher and Barris as executive producer. The new film’s plot includes Akeem learning about a long-lost son and returning to America to meet the supposed heir to the throne of Zamunda.
The film’s original cast was comprised of Arsenio Hall playing Semmi, Shari Headley as Akeem’s love interest, John Amos as her father, and James Earl Jones as the king. Not much more information has yet been revealed about the new remake but Eddie Murphy returning as Akeem is enough to make us hopeful! #Socialites, are you excited for the sequel?
