Pennsylvania couple has been accused of faking the birth and death of their baby so that they could scam over $600 in gifts and money from friends and family.

Geoffrey and Kaycee Lang were charged with theft by deception and receiving stolen property on Thursday.

Police report that they posted a photo on Facebook of a baby. They claimed the child was born July 3 but died a few hours later. The image of the child was similar to that of a “newborn look-a-like baby doll” that police discovered in their Somerset County home.

An obituary was quickly posted for the fake baby saying,

“Easton’s parents were blessed with just a little over 5 hours before he went to his heavenly home at 8.20 am. Easton experienced holding hands and hugs and kisses with his mommy and daddy and being told uncountable number of ‘I love yous’.”

A GoFundMe account was quickly made after the fake death. The couple even had a baby shower in May.

Kaycee’s friend Cynthia Dilascio revealed to WTAE that she became suspicious after the couple said the official cause of death was respiratory distress syndrome after the baby was born with fluid on his lungs. She didn’t understand why the hospital would allow the baby to go home with them, so she called the funeral home and there was no record of the baby.
