A Michigan couple is facing backlash after their “Make America Great Again” themed wedding went viral on social media.
According to FOX 5 News, Audra and Jeff Johnson got married on July 4 and used red, white, and blue to fit the holiday theme. The bridesmaids also wore the patriotic colors and Audra wore a traditional white dress. Shortly after, Audra changed into a white dress with the words “Make America Great Again” on the front, and “Trump” on the back. When she uploaded her wedding photos on Facebook, the couple started receiving comments about the theme and her dress.
“We love our country and our president. To us, it wasn’t any different than any other themed wedding,”
The theme also included a petition that supported the “fetal heartbeat bill” on each reception table and the groomsmen wore cufflinks with the phrase “Don’t tread on me.”

However, Jeff’s father did not attend the wedding due to his political beliefs and Audra says her relationship with her brother was strained due to her political beliefs. She stated how the wedding was legitimate and some people compromised by putting their beliefs aside to make her wedding day special.
“I want people to realize that it was such a diverse group of people that got together that day. We were able to understand that we don’t all have to agree to still share love together. I think that’s what people are missing out on.”
