Dame Dash Talks Aaliyah & More After Viewing ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ Docuseries

In addition to many who tuned into to watch Lifetime’s Surviving R. Kelly docuseries, music mogul Damon “Dame” Dash also watched along with and is now sharing his thoughts.

While connecting with Kenyatta Griggs of Hip-Hop Motivation, Dame opened up about it being difficult to watch as memories of his ex-girlfriend, the late Aaliyah, came up and recalled her own trouble dealing with the emotional trauma following her relationship with Kelly.

So, around the 10:11 mark of the clip he states, “I watched some of it yesterday, as much as I could tolerate. I’m not gonna lie, as a human, I was tight. I was tight about a couple things. Number one: There was a girl when she was even trying to talk about it and she couldn’t, and I remember Aaliyah trying to talk about it and she couldn’t. She would just leave it at, ‘That dude was a bad man.'”

Additionally, he continues about his own frustrations with being unable to assist her through the emotions, stating, “It was so much hurt for her to revisit it. I wouldn’t want to revisit it without a professional. Whatever got done was terrible.”

Also, about the collaborative album between his former business partner JAY-Z and R. Kelly, Best of Both Worlds, which  followed after the singer’s death, Dame reveals that he strongly opposed it; presenting that Jay was aware of Kelly’s alleged abuse towards Aaliyah.

While refusing to accept credits on the record, Dame took the profits and donated them to a breast cancer awareness organization, supported by the late singer.

Additionally, he explains, “If you remember The Best of Both Worlds, you don’t see my name on that. I never wanted no part of that. I know I’m not fuckin’ with that […] I knew, morally, we weren’t the same,” Dash said, referring to JAY. “So, to me, Roc-a-Fella was defunct. It was over. I couldn’t fuck with it. It was something that, to me—I don’t wanna say ‘unforgivable,’ but I couldn’t understand it.”
