David Ortiz Had To have Organs Partially Removed Following Shooting
Former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz is reported to have parts of his intestines, colon and gallbladder removed after he was shot in the Dominican Republic last night.
ESPN reports that Ortiz also suffered liver damage after he was shot in the back at the Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo.
“Doctors say he is out of danger, but he is heavily sedated and will be in intensive care for the next 24 hours,” Ortiz’s media assistant Leo Lopez revealed.
Lopez added that Ortiz underwent six hours of surgery, but, he is recovering well.
“Doctors say that David is out of danger, thank God,” Ortiz’s dad, Leo Ortiz, said. “What they have told me post-op is that the doctors believe he will recover quickly.”
The gunman has been identified as 25-year-old Eddy Feliz Garcia. A video we posted, shows that Garcia had been captured and beaten by a crowd of people at the bar.
Police are currently investigating the crime and Garcia has been released into their custody.
