Former Boston Red Sox Player David Ortiz is reportedly in stable condition after he was shot while visiting a night club in the Dominican Republic.
USA TODAY reports Ortiz was shot in the back at a local night club during an attempted robbery and was transported to a hospital. Authorities reported that Ortiz underwent surgery since he was shot on his left side and the bullet exited of his abdomen. His friend, Johel López, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the shooting.
Earlier, Ortiz’s father spoke with ESPN Deportes and said he did not know the extent of his son’s condition or which hospital he was transported to.
“They called me to tell me that David is injured and that they took him to a medical center, but they did not tell me how he is or exactly where he was transferred.”
Prior to his arrival at the hospital, Ortiz was reported to be “conscious and speaking.”
