David Ortiz Undergoes Third Surgery Following Shooting
Boston Red Sox player David Ortiz had to have a third surgery due to complications following the shooting in the Dominican Republic.
The NY Post reports that the 43-year-old had a third procedure just a month after he was mistakenly hit at a Dial Bar in Santo Domingo.
“The operation was performed by Dr. David King at Massachusetts General Hospital. David is recovering well and is in good spirits,” the Red Sox said in a statement. “We continue to be incredibly appreciative of the kindness and compassion shown to David and to our entire family during this difficult time.”
There is no further information on what the surgery consisted of.
As we reported, Ortiz was shot in the back and had to have parts of his organs removed in the previous surgeries.
Police believe that Victor Hugo Gómez Vasquez orchestrated the hit on his cousin and Ortiz’s friend, Sixto David Fernández, and accidentally hit Ortiz instead.
An additional 14 suspects were detained in connection with the murder. Ortiz was moved back to Boston last month.
