Death Row Inmate Donates Last Meal Before Execution To The Homeless
A death-row inmate from Tennesse is donating his last luxury meal before execution to the homeless.
Fox News reports that Don Johnson requested that his special last meal before Thursday’s execution be given to the homeless.
The state’s Department of Correction revealed that Johnson turned down his last meal selection and will eat from the regular menu given to the other prisoners.
His lawyer, Kelley Henry Revealed that his decision to forfeit his meal was inspired by his fellow inmate friend, Philip Workman, who wanted a vegetarian pizza to be delivered to a homeless person, however, the request was apparently not honored. Despite this, Workman’s supporters sent pizzas.
“Mr. Johnson realizes that his $20 allotment will not feed many homeless people,” Henry said. “His request is that those who have supported him provide a meal to a homeless person.”
Johnson, 68, is on death row for the 1984 murder of his wife, Connie Johnson.
