The company which worked alongside Nintendo started their business in January 2000, and became well known for other popular games including Superstar Saga, Partners in Time, Bowser’s Inside Story, Dream Team, Paper Jam, Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions, Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey, Heavy reports. It was said that the company has been been experiencing low revenue in recent years. According to Yahoo! Japan, high development costs crippled the studio, leading to debts of 400 million yen ($3.7 million) by March 2018.

Many game lovers took to Twitter to react to the news with some fearing that AlphaDream’s bankruptcy also meant no more new Mario & Luigi games, a thought which was depressing to the gaming world.

One user wrote, “When you need to go to sleep but you can’t stop thinking about the Mario & Luigi RPG Series having an unceetain future now thanks to AlphaDream going backrupt.” Another said, “That is depressing that AlphaDream filed for Bankruptcy……….. It’s not too shocking since the last few Mario & Luigi games have sold pretty poorly, but damn this hurts. They made quality games ! I’ll miss them.”

Earlier this year Loot Crate also filed for bankruptcy following layoffs at the subscription-box company. As of right now, it unclear what the company’s exact plans are, but we will continue to keep you updated when more details have been shared.
