South Carolina police explained that they were looking for a suspect in connection to the death of a 27-year-old man who was shot in the lower back last month. Columbia, SC cops said they spoke to witnesses who reported that they heard the wounded man and another unidentified male arguing moments before shots rang out. One of the witnesses said “The guy looks a lot like DMX,” and so they sketched out what they thought the suspect might look like.

However, according to the sketch shared by the department, it appears they used a picture of the rapper from the Ruff Ryders website and just added some hair to their sketch. While speaking with TMZ, DMX said:

“I think they f*cked around and took a picture of me … and added hair to it,” he continued. “They know I’m on parole man! That’s definitely a picture of me, I mean think about it, you never seen the police capture that much detail, you know? Like, c’mon. Police sketches be like outline shit, it’ll be real quick. That’s a fucking drawing right there, that ain’t no sketch.”

Authorities have made it clear that DMX definitely isn’t the suspect. However, the rapper is still not ok with being linked to a murder suspect, especially after being released from jail for tax evasion.

Despite that, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division spokesperson Thom Berry defended the departments move to use DMX’s photo to help their case.

”We always let the witness dictate the process and how everything unfolds,” Berry said. “We make sure the witness sees everything we do and is comfortable with whatever rendering that we make.” Berry added that the sketch was done by a forensic artist who has worked for the state police for five years and is “very well trained and respected in the profession,”
