Documentary About Michael Jackson’s Accusers Set To Debut At Sundance

On Wednesday, Sundance announced that a documentary about two boys who accused Michael Jackson of sexual abuse will premiere at its film festival later this month.

Initially it wasn’t on the festival’s calendar but the Sundance Institute added “Leaving Neverland” to the lineup along with “The Brink,” a documentary about former Donald Trump’s adviser Steve Bannon. The shocking announcement got the attention of Jackson’s estate which promptly denounced the documentary.

“This is yet another lurid production in an outrageous and pathetic attempt to exploit and cash in on Michael Jackson,” an estate statement said.

In the description of “Leaving Neverland” the documentary will tell the story of two men who are now in their 30s and began long-running relationships with Jackson at ages 7 and 10 when Jackson was at the height of his career. Dan Reed, director and producer of the film has not commented on the criticism from the late singer’s family and his fans.

The Sundance Film Festival is set to kick off on Jan 24 and run through Feb. 4.
