The Weeknd’s Show Ends Early After Fans Storm Arena
The Weeknd has some devoted fans in Abu Dhabi as his sold-out show ended early when they stormed the arena’s gates.
According to Page Six, a source revealed what went down at the Du Arena, where the singer headlined a show as a part of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix,
“The show had to stop early because it was so dangerous. Fans were going insane outside breaking down barricades and storming toward the stage.”
Event organizers closed the gates of the du Arena which shut out some ticket holders in the process.
“The health and safety of our fans, staff and artists is always our number one priority,” Yasalam organisers Flash Entertainment said in a statement.
“The du Arena can easily accommodate 35,000 concert-goers. However, due to a large number of fans arriving simultaneously to The Weeknd concert, the gates were closed as a safety measure.”
“We are aware that this caused upset and disappointment and understand this can lead to frustration.”
The Weeknd was finally able to perform around 9:30 pm, the gates had originally opened at 6 pm.
