As we previously reported, an armored truck was driving on the interstate when one of it’s side doors flew open Monday near Ashford Dunwoody Road. Footage captured by another driver showed cars stopping to pick up the cash and quickly return back to their cars. Police believe a total of 50 people may have taken money from the side of the road. Cops have ordered the drivers to return the money but if they refuse, charges could include theft of lost or mislaid property and could be a felony or misdemeanor, depending on the amount; if they are caught.

Dunwoody Police said several people have turned in some money, at least $4,400. Two Atlanta men came in and handed over $2,000 to authorities. One man identified as Randrell Lewis said he thought about what the money could do for his family, but decided to return it because it wasn’t worth the legal trouble.

They’re asking for other drivers to make it easier for themselves as they claim that they have “plenty of social media video, some of which seems to have tag numbers, to follow up on, but we really want people to come in, turn in the money and go on about their life without worrying about when the police are coming to find them,” said Sgt. Robert Parsons, a spokesman for the Dunwoody Police Department.
