Infamous drug kingpin Frank Lucas is reported to have passed away on Thursday night.

Frank’s character was portrayed by Denzel Washington in the movie “American gangster.”

TMZ reports that Frank was on his way to the hospital in an ambulance when he died. As of now the cause of death is unknown.

Frank was infamous for dealing heroin in Harlem in the 1960s and ’70s. He used to brag about getting his drugs from Southeast Asia and smuggling them back to the U.S using the coffins of dead servicemen.

Frank was finally arrested for his drug empire in the mid-1970s. His assets and wealth had been seized by authorities, including his huge properties in Chicago, Miami, Detroit, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and Puerto Rico. He was well known for rubbing shoulders with the elite, whether it be political figures or celebrities.

He was sentenced to 70 years in prison, but was released earlier. His final release was in 1991.

Frank is survived by his seven children.
