An elderly man tried to abduct an 8-year-old girl while she was standing with her mother in the Bronx.
Gaspar Argumedes, 76, approached the child around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday on Longwood Avenue near Beck Street in Longwood, police said.
“She is mine. She belongs to me,” said the suspect, a complete stranger, as he grabbed the girl by the neck and body and ran down the street with her, according to police and a court document.
“Mom! Mom! Help! Help!” the screaming girl yelled through tears, the complaint said.
According to sources, the 8-year-old girl’s mom was able to stop Argumedes from getting away.
Argumedes was arrested at the scene minutes later. Police charged him with attempted kidnapping, criminal obstruction of breathing, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment, assault, and harassment, although, in court, those raps went down to endangering the welfare of a child and harassment, according to the criminal complaint about Argumedes’ arrest.
The girl was treated by EMS but did not require further medical attention.
