“Empire” To End After Sixth Season

The hit Fox series “Empire” directed by Lee Daniels will be coming to an end after its sixth season next year, according to multiple reports.

The big news was announced Monday during Fox’s pre-upfront confrence call. It was said, “We are turning the final season into a large TV event — we are trying to go out guns a-blazing,” Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier said on the call. “One of the great benefits of announcing a final season is to allow the fans to lean in and to have the ending they deserve, and that’s everything we’re trying to do with this iconic series. Six years is a pretty remarkable run for a drama series and we feel good about it.”

So, will Jussie Smollett be in the last season of “Empire” following his brutal attack scandal? Well, Collier said that there are no such plans, but that it’s possible.

“At this point, we have no plans for that,” Collier said. “The writer’s room for next season hasn’t even gathered yet.”

The news follows the announcement that Lee Daniels directed series “Star” has been canceled after its 3rd season.
