Ezekiel Elliott Paying For Funeral Of Murdered 14-Year-Old Football Star

According to TMZ, NFL star Ezekiel Elliott will be covering the funeral expenses for an 8th grade football star who was fatally hit by a stray bullet last weekend while leaving a party in St. Louis.

As we reported, McKenzie, who was a rising star on the field and had scholarship offers from the University of Missouri and University of Illinois, was shot after a fight broke out between other people at a house party following a school dance late Saturday night. McKenzie and others were walking outside to leave the home when he was struck. He died at a nearby hospital a short time later, according to the Illinois State Police. He was just 14 years old.

The tragic story broke many hearts across the country. Ezekiel Elliott, who grew up in St. Louis also heard about his passing and the NFL star felt compelled to help McKenzie’s family by paying for the funeral costs. 

McKenzie’s mother, Sukeena Gunner, spoke with the Belleville News-Democrat to share how greatful and happy she was to hear that Zeke wanted to help out. She said,

“For him to reach out to me was unbelievable,” Gunner said … “Jaylon loved Ezekiel Elliott. He talked about him all the time.” She added, “Just for him to reach out to me and help me in this difficult time leaves me speechless.”
