On Sunday, the Grammys will honor Motown, but fans are not thrilled that they chose Jennifer Lopez to do it.
Black Twitter is blowing up following the announcement that the Grammys have selected Jeniffer Lopez to do a tribute to the legendary Motown.
With Motown being a major staple in the black music community dating back to 60 years, fans feel that choosing Lopez is not celebrating black excellence.
“JLo doing a Motown Tribute is peak of a messed up Black History Month.” one user said.
This news was shared via Rap-Up on Tuesday afternoon just days before the show is set to air.
With Jen being a major staple in music, there is no question as to why she will be taking the stage at the Grammys, fans are arguing that she’s not the first person who should have come to mind when thinking about Motown.
Artists like The Jackson 5, The Supremes, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder and so many more came up under the Motown name, but as of now, there is no word on if any of them will take part.
Others who might be more suited:
LA’PORSHA RENAE (and she’s a @motown artist)
ANTHONY HAMILTON (he’d be fire)
GARY CLARK JR.
