Farmer Amputates Own Leg To Save His Life
A farmer had to amputate his own leg after he got stuck in some equipment in order to save his own life!
Kurt Kaser, who has been a grain farmer for more than 40 years, told KETV that when he got stuck, he didn’t have access to his phone and knew that he was alone.
“I had my pocket knife in my pocket. I said, ‘The only way I’m getting out of here is to cut it off,’ so I just started sawing at it,” he said.
Kaser talks about the incident while he is in the rehab center.
“I was unloading corn into a bin, well, moving corn and taking it from one place to the other,” he said.
“If I could have got by that first load, unloading, I think I would have thought of it or seen it, but I was in that routine like I used to do and I didn’t think of it.”
He said he pulled in, got out of the truck and turned the corner.
“Stepped into the hopper in the little hole. It just sucked my leg in and I was trying to pull it out, but it kept pulling,” he said.
He had no choice but to amputate his own leg.
“When I was cutting it, the nerve endings, I could feel, like, the ping every time I sawed around that pipe, and all at once it went and it let me go and I got the heck out of there,” Kaser said.
He then crawled across the field to seek help. He miraculously stayed conscious all the way to the hospital and has a pretty chilled out attitude about the incident!
“It is what it is, make the best of it is all you can do. It could of always been worse,” Kaser added.
