What do you do when you want something really bad but don’t have enough money to get it? Save, find something else, do without? Well, a father and son who has an obsession with Lamborghini’s didn’t do any of those things above. Instead, they actually decided to make their own hot ride!

Father-son duo, Sterling Backus and Xander were fascinated with the supercar in the video game Forza Horizon. They always dreamt of having a brand-new Aventador but knew they didn’t have $300k to get it. However, that didn’t stop them.

They decided to get creative and build their own by using a 3D printer to construct it, despite having no experience. According to The Sun, the college professor and his son spent over 18 months and an hour each day gluing each panel onto the home-made chassis. Backus said they covered it in carbon fibre which was fitted using vacuum moulding – a process he learned from YouTube. They took a LS1 V8 engine from a 2003 Chevrolet Corvette, as well as two turbochargers.

“Basically it won`t melt in the sun,” Backus said, referring to the use of carbon fiber.

The two are not completed with their project just yet, but they got pretty far. It was said that the vehicle will be drivable in October and the full body will be complete in early 2020.

“We have a long way to go in finishing the car. We have had our ups, and downs, but the journey has been a ton of fun.”
