Father Watches As His Son Is Swept Away Into Shark Infested Waters During Dorian
A Bahamas father details the horrifying moment he watched as his 5-year-old son was swept away into shark-infested waters during Hurricane Dorian.
Adrian Farrington, 38, from the Abaco Islands, says he was outside on Sunday with his son Adrian Farrington Jr. when sharks started appearing by his doorstep due to the floods. As their house filled up with water, they tried to get to the roof to safety.
“So, I grabbed my son and I put him on top [of] the roof,” Farrington told The Nassau Guardian. “The water was high on the roof.”
He tried to comfort his little boy amidst the horror.
“I keep telling him, ‘Don’t cry. Close your mouth. Don’t cry. Keep breathing. Don’t cry. Close your mouth,’” he said.
However, things took a turn for the worse as the hurricane winds dragged his son off the roof.
“Before I could sit on the roof to hold him, the gust from the hurricane dragged him across the roof back into the surge on the next side,” Farrington added. “I still could remember him reaching for me and calling me, ‘Daddy!’”
He began looking through debris, but couldn’t find his son.
“I was like feeling to see if I could feel some kind of cloth, some kind of clothes, some kind of skin, flesh, tennis, something,” Farrington said as he cried.
“I ain’t find nothing,” he said. “I come back up. I hold my breath and I gone back down again. All this time, people carried my wife to safety and they calling me, but I ain’t want to go because I didn’t want to leave my son.”
He became exhausted from searching and there was no sign of the boy. Eventually, the dad was taken to a clinic to be treated for his own injuries.
As of now, there is no sign of his son, but, a post on an Abaco Islands Facebook page urges anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward and help if they find him.
