Kevin Fret was shot and killed on his motorbike in Santurce, a district in San Juan on Thursday. He was known as the first openly gay Latin trap artist.
According to Fox News, police are currently investigating as to who killed Kevin Fret, 24, and reported that a man fled the scene after the shooting occurred Thursday. His manager, Eduardo Rodriguez, confirmed Fret’s death with Billboard.
“Kevin was an artistic soul, a big-hearted dreamer. His passion was music, and still had a lot to do,” Rodriguez said in a statement. “This violence must stop. There are no words that describe the feeling we have and the pain that causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go. We must all unite in these difficult times, and ask for much peace for our beloved Puerto Rico.”
Fret became popular among the Latin trap scene with his hit “Soy Asi” and stated he was the first openly gay Latin trap artist during an interview with Paper magazine.

“I’m going to act like I don’t give a d— about what anybody has to say, with my blonde hair, my black nails, showing my stomach, glittery from head to toe. Young gay guys or young lesbians … are looking at me now like a role model, like wow, if he did it, and he doesn’t care what anybody else has to say, I can do it.”
Fret was reported to be the 22nd person who died from gun violence in Puerto Rico this year.
