A man who travelled all the way from Norway to surprise his father-in-law was accidentally shot dead after the surprise didn’t go as planned!

Christopher Bergan, 37, flew from Norway to surprise Richard Dennis, 61, at his home in Gulf Breeze, Florida, on Tuesday.

Dennis fired one shot that hit Bergan in the chest in his backyard and killed him.

Apparently, Dennis had a disagreement earlier that night with a family member and he was on edge.

“I’m not going to second guess Mr Dennis for what he did,” Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said.

“Here he is, he had just had a confrontation at the front of his house,” the sheriff added.

He said Dennis had had an argument with a family member around 21:36 on 1 October. The family member had banged on the door, similar to that of Bergan later in the night.

“At 11:30, Mr. Dennis hears the same type of banging on the back door that he heard on the front door earlier,” the sheriff said. “So he turns on the back porch light, he steps out and Mr. Bergan jumps out of the shadows, scaring Mr. Dennis.”

According to NBC news, Bergan made a sound when he jumped out of the bushes to surprise Dennis and that is when he was shot!

“Our investigation has revealed that this was totally accidental, it was a really sad occurrence, and that no charges are warranted in this case,” Sheriff Johnson added.
