Florida Mayor Opens Fire On SWAT Team At His Home
The mayor of Port Richey, Florida, has been arrested on attempted homicide charges after opening fire on SWAT who came to his house to carry out a search warrant.
Reports state that Mayor Dale Massad fired two shots at a SWAT team early Thursday morning, however, nobody was hurt as police did not return fire.
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said that Massad, 68, is “lucky he’s not dead.”
“He shot rounds at us. That’s why we had so many members of our SWAT team out there, we knew it was going to be a very dangerous situation,” Nocco added.
According to CBS affiliate WTSP, Nocco also claimed that Massad was a “known drug user” and “drug dealer.”
“The suspect made statements he does not want to go back to jail. The suspect has a previous history of violence. That’s what we were dealing with today,” Nocco concluded.
Massad was being investigated for practicing medicine without a license, which he had revoked over 25 years ago. He will be taken to the Pasco County Jail.
