According to officials, Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean was not sent on a welfare check on the night he killed Atatiana Jefferson. In fact, he and another officer were apparently sent on an open structure call which is often related to burglaries.

According to CNN, officials are investigating what former Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean and his partner were told before arriving to Jefferson’s home.

“The information came from the neighbor to the call-takers and while it was relayed to the dispatch, it was determined to be an open structure call,” Fort Worth Police Chief Ed Kraus sais to reporters.

Experts claim that the classification escalated things from a welfare check to a burglary and caused the officers to respond differently.

As we reported, Atatiana’s neighbor called the police and said that he was worried about his neighbor because her door was open at 2 AM. He asked for them to do a welfare check to make sure she was okay. However, upon arrival, Dean’s body cam shows no signs of burglary as the doors at the residence were not damaged. There was no sign of a crime, but, the officer’s immediately acted as though it was a high-risk matter.

Dean is currently out on bail.
