French Montana On R. Kelly: ‘Let Somebody Enjoy Their Legacy’
French Montana is the latest celebrity to weigh in on the R. Kelly controversy and he has a different take on this situation than other celebs.
The rapper was stopped by TMZ and was asked whether or not people should stop listening to R. Kelly’s music as a result of the #MuteRKelly movement. French responded,
“He fought in a court of law and won.”
In defense of Kelly, French compared his situation to Michael Jackson’s. The late singer‘s public image was also damaged by child sexual abuse allegations. French noted that a majority of iconic artists go through things like this, but should not be stripped away from their legendary moments.
“All the greats went down like that,” he said. “Let somebody enjoy their legacy. Whatever happened, happened, man.” “[People] don’t let nobody have their legendary moments,” French said when asked if people should stop listening to R. Kelly.
Other artists feel the total opposite when it comes to this topic. Lady’s Gaga recently removed her song “Do What U Want (With My Body)” ft R. Kelly from all streaming services and also apologized for collaborating with him. Chance the Rapper also spoke out and revealed that he regrets working with someone like him.
