Speaking with Women’s Health, actress Gabrielle Union talks about her newfound motherhood and the long journey she endured to get there; including the long-winded IVF process which led to “eight or nine miscarriages” and surrogacy.
Additionally, in her 2017 memoir, We’re Going to Need More Wine, Union chronicles the three years of failed treatments and receiving an adenomyosis diagnosis. After finding the right surrogate candidate, Union and husband Dwayne Wade welcomed their first child together, and her first altogether, Kaavia James Union Wade in November 2018.
While she initially says, “There’s nothing more that I wanted than to cook my own baby. The idea of it felt like surrendering to failure,” the Being Mary Jane star recalled the moment she finally met her baby girl, “I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is my baby.’ I wanted to fight everybody in that room for various reasons and no reason.”
In addition to the above, Union talks with the publication about her process in choosing the perfect candidate to carry her daughter and newest ventures in Hollywood.
