Garlic Festival Shooter Santino Legan Legally Purchased Gun in Nevada
According to Investigators Santino William Legan, the young man suspected of killing three people, including a 6-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California had legally purchased his gun from Nevada.
According to CNN, 19-year-old Santino also injured 12 others. Witnesses report that the gunman had a “high-powered rifle” and was shooting randomly into the crowd at the annual Garlic Festival in Gilroy Sunday evening. Fortunately, police quickly arrived and shot and killed him before anyone else could get hurt.
Gilroy chief of police Scot Smithee confirmed that Santino had opened fire with an AK-47 rifle that he had legally bought in Nevada on July 9.
“When the call came in, shots being fired, the closest team of officers responded immediately,” said Smithee. “As soon as he saw the officers, he engaged the officers and fired at the officers with that rifle.”
Police are currently investigating the scene and looking at surveillance video to establish a motive for the shooting.
