While yes, the song did feature the word, Rodrigez caught major backlash resulting in Rodrigez taking to her Instagram story to send an apology!
“I just wanted to reach out and apologize,” she said. “I am sorry, I am sorry if I offended anyone by singing along to the Fugees, to a song I love that I grew up on. I love Lauryn Hill.”
This is not the first time that Rodrigez has come up in a conversation about race and language. If you recall, back in June, Rodrigez was in tears when asked about a comment she made that was perceived as anti-black. She’s also been accused of pitting black and Latinx actors against each other.
“Marvel and DC are killing it in inclusion and women, but where are the Latinos?! Asking for a friend…” she tweeted in 2017 during Black Panther‘s promo.
