GoFundMe Started For Family After Mom With 11 Children Dies
A family of 11 is left heartbroken after their mother passed away unexpectedly from breast cancer.
According to Fox 2, earlier this month, 44-year-old Rashida Lawson had become sick and was taken to the hospital. There, doctors discovered that she had stage 4 breast cancer and just a week later she unfortunately passed away, leaving behind 11 kids ranging from ages 4 to 23 years old.
The family had initially created a GoFundMe account to raise money for their mother’s burial. They did reach their goal of $100,000. However, after the world heard that the children no longer have their mother and learned that they lost their father 10 years ago, leaving the eldest siblings to take on the role as caretakers, donations kept pouring in as many people became eager to help out. As of right now, a total of $136,595 has been donated to the family.
Speaking with Fox 5 News, the family opened up about how they’re going to try their best to live without their mother. Destiny Stone, who will now help raise some of her younger siblings said,
“Honestly I don’t think they can handle that responsibility,” she said. “I think I can… sorry.”
“It’s a lot on her shoulders it’s a lot on everybody’s shoulders right now,” said Rashida’s son Kenneth. “We don’t know what we have to do. We’re just lost.”
“We’re battling with the financial problems right now,” Rashida’s other daughter Tamera Stone said. “And considering that school is still in, we have to pick up the pieces where our mom left off at. Right now we’re on our own.”
Rashida also had three grandchildren, one on the way and a nephew she was also caring for before she suddenly passed.
