Good Samaritan Picks Up Hotel Tab For 70 Homeless People

70 homeless people now have temporary shelter thanks to an anonymous person who decided to pay for rooms at a hotel in Chicago.

The anonymous donor made the big move after propane tanks which were kept to keep them warm in subzero temperatures were confiscated, according to the Chicago Tribune. The tanks were actually donated to the homeless but one exploded Wednesday afternoon, prompting a response from the Salvation Army, a spokesperson for the organization, Jacqueline Rachev, told CBS News.

No one was injured during the blast but it caused a small fire, which led the Chicago Fire Department to take away the propane tanks, leaving the homeless without a shelter to keep warm during the deadly freezing temperatures. After coming across the news, the donor made sure dozens of people in need had a warm place to sleep.

As of right now, at least nine deaths are now connected to the polar vortex that’s spreading dangerously cold air and causing major disruptions across the Midwest.
