Google Maps Helps Find Man Who Went Missing 22 Years Ago
The remains of a man who went missing over 22 years ago have finally been found with the help of Google maps.
William Moldt, was reported missing from Lantana, Florida, on 7 November 1997. He never returned home after a night on the town when he was 40.
However, 22 years later, police were called to reports of an abandoned car that had been found in a pond in Moon Bay Circle, Wellington.
Once police pulled the vehicle from the water, the found skeletal remains which would later be identified as belonging to Moldt.
The BBC reports that Moldt’s submerged car was discovered by a resident of the area who did “a Google search” on maps. The man then contacted a current resident of Moon Bay Circle who used a drone to confirm that there was a car in the pond.
Authorities believe that he lost control of his vehicle and drove into the pond 22 years ago.
The discovery of the vehicle only became apparent after the water shifted. On the night in question Moldt is said to have gone to a club and told his girlfriend that he would return by 9:30 PM, however, he was never seen again.
His family have been notified of the discovery.
