A groom in Saudi Arabia decided to stick with his own personal beliefs.
According to Albawaba, Saudi Arabia was the only country in the world to ban women from driving. However, the bride’s father insisted his daughter will have a driver’s license when the ban is lifted in 2018. The groom agreed to previous demands but was surprised by the father’s request.
He accepted a payment of 40,000 riyals($10,666) and allowing his wife to continue working after the wedding. Because of the additional request, the groom left the ceremony. The request was made minutes before the wedding began. The groom asked his cousins to bring food to his fiancée’s family and did not participate in the dinner.
The ban was recently lifted in Saudi Arabia last month and will be affect in June 2018. It was seen as a form of repression and was referenced in artist M.I.A’s “Bad Girls” video.
