Guards On Duty During Jeffrey Epstein Suicide Expected To Be Charged With Falsifying Records

The two prison guards who were assigned to watch over accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein on the night he committed suicide inside his New York City jail cell are expected to be charged with falsifying prison records, according to a close source to the investigation.

As we previously reported, the wealthy financier’s Aug. 10 death was ruled a suicide. He was found unresponsive in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York. The officers are being accused of failing to check on Epstein every half-hour, as required, and of fabricating log entries to show they had.

The two staffers were placed on administrative leave after Epstein’s death and federal prosecutors offered them a plea deal before moving to file charges, which they reportedly rejected, Associated Press reports. According to CNBC, the criminal charges against the two unnamed guards could come as early as today, the source said.

Spokespeople for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York declined to comment on the reported charges.
