Superintendent Richard Loescher confirmed Barton’s termination with Newsday after news of his arrest.
“The employee has been administratively reassigned from his job responsibilities and is prohibited from entering school grounds,”
Barton reportedly worked for the Brentwood School District for 30 years and taught physical education along with being listed as a wrestling coach on a school board meeting document.
His arraignment was scheduled for Saturday and he pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape. A judge set his bail for $40,000. There were no details about the victim or her family.
