Hangovers Have Officially Been Ruled An Illness By A German Court

Most of you know that terrible feeling of a hangover after a fun night out; the major headache, fatigue, nausea and vomiting and body pain for some. While it’s never been considered an actual illness, a German court ruled on Monday that it definitely is!

The verdict in Frankfurt’s state court came in response to a defendant; an unidentified distributor of a food supplement that had advertised its product as an “anti-hangover drink” cure, Fox News reports.

The company’s marketing violated a ban by claiming their food products had the ability to prevent, treat or even heal illnesses. From there, court judges found that an “illness” actually should be defined broadly in the interest of protecting people’s health, and said the term encompasses “any, even a slight or temporary, disruption of the body’s normal condition or normal activity.” Judges said that includes headaches and other symptoms that result from consuming alcohol, “a harmful substance.”

The ruling came just days after the 186th Oktoberfest began on Saturday in Munich.
