Harvey Weinstein is reportedly turning himself in over sexual assault charges in New York City.
According to the NYDailyNews, Weinstein is expected to surrender himself over to authorities on Friday where he will face sexual assault charges in connection with an attack on a student actress in 2004. The disgraced Hollywood filmmaker is being charged for allegedly preying on Lucia Evans who told investigators that Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him in 2004, according to police sources.
Evans previously told The New Yorker what led up to the alleged rape. At the time, she says she was an incoming college senior trying to make a break into the industry when she met Weinstein at an NYC nightclub. She says Weinstein invited her to his Miramax office for a daytime meeting where he pulled her head down to his crouch.
“I said, over and over, ‘I don’t want to do this, stop, don’t,’ ” she told the magazine. “I tried to get away, but maybe I didn’t try hard enough. I didn’t want to kick him or fight him.”
Evans says the filmmaker ultimately “overpowered” her.
“I just sort of gave up,” she said.
The investigation was handled by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office and NYPD and due to the nature of the allegations, the statute of limitations does not apply.
Evans is part of more than 50 women who have accused Weinstein of sexual harassment, assault or rape, including A-list actresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Ashley Judd and Angelina Jolie.
Weinstein continues to deny all allegations despite checking himself into rehab for a sex addiction. Reportedly there is also a pending investigation into allegations that Weinstein raped actress Paz de la Huerta twice in 2010. The actress reported the incident to cops in late October 2017.
Weinstein is also part of criminal sexual assault investigations in Los Angeles and London.
