Today marks World Mental Health Day.

Many celebrities have opened up about their battle with mental illness. Mariah Carey revealed she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

“I was irritable and in constant fear of letting people down. It turns out that I was experiencing a form of mania. Eventually I would just hit a wall. I guess my depressive episodes were characterized by having very low energy. I would feel so lonely and sad — even guilty that I wasn’t doing what I needed to be doing for my career.”

Carey is not alone. Kanye West also announced he suffers from bipolar disorder. The rapper was diagnosed at the age of 39. He released an album where he states his illness is not a disorder but instead a superpower.

“See, that’s my third person! That’s my bipolar sh*t, n***a, what? That’s my superpower, n***a, ain’t no disability, I’m a superhero! I’m a superhero!”

Pete Davidson from SNL has also been very vocal about his borderline personality disorder. Davidson took to social media to stand up for people diagnosed with a mental illness.

“Just because someone has a mental illness does not mean they can’t be happy and in a relationship. It also doesn’t mean that person makes the relationship toxic.”

Davidson continues,

“I just think it’s f*cked up to stigmatize people as crazy and say that they are unable to do stuff that anyone can do. It’s not their fault and it’s the wrong way for people to look at things.”

To help celebrate World Mental Health Day we’ve compiled a photo gallery of celebrities who have vocalized their mental illness and have continued to work hard and succeed.
