Hollywood Unlocked got an exclusive pass to join ‘Papa Drake,’ better known as Dennis Graham, at his private release party for his new music video for his song, ‘Kinda Crazy.’ He shows us that there is no age limit when it comes to pursuing your dreams.
The event took place in Downtown Los Angeles, where guests were able to mingle, eat different foods provided by Fat Sal’s sandwiches and a local pizzeria, and enjoy an open bar, which featured Apryl Jones’ Wines and Graham’s signature cocktails made with his very own Whiskey, ‘Virginia Black.’
Graham, who is no rookie to the music scene, says his definition of ‘kinda crazy’ would be “himself!” He’s known for taking risks, standing above the rest, and working hard at his passions. Being from Memphis, Tennessee, music and soul definitely run through his veins. He taught himself how to play almost a whole band’s worth of instruments when he was young, including the piano, drums, and guitar. He even used to occasionally drum for Jerry Lee Lewis. In fact, another family member used to work closely with Al Green as well.
Although son Drake was not in attendance, Graham was able to hold his own without riding his son’s coattails. He debuted his video, directed by NeKisha Anderson from Sweden, and everyone in the room was blown away. The song has a chill, smooth R&B vibe that would make you think of a modern-day Marvin Gaye.
When asked if Dennis is competing with his legendary son now that they are both well-known talented musicians, he laughed and expressed:
“Oh no, there’s no way I could compete with him. He’s done way more than I have, I could never compete.”
Amongst other guests, Graham’s celebrity pals came out to show their support and have a good time too. Those in attendance were rapper Snoop Dogg, Cannabis connoisseur Bishop Don Juan, mother/ wine creator Apryl Jones, ‘Ballers’ actor Kris Lofton, and many more.
