A 20-week-old fetus was discovered under a tree near an East New York school early Monday morning and NYPD officers say it was left in a bag with bloody clothing.
ABC 7 reports that the fetus was found before 7 a.m. at Linden Boulevard and Bradford Street. Witness Orlando Reid said his neighbor discovered it while he was taking a morning walk with his dog.
“Just a fetus, uncovered. You could tell it was dead though.”
Another woman said she noticed the bag and assumed it was trash until she realized what was actually inside of it.
“Considering all the trash you see in the city, I never seen this before. I would have never thought it, to see this, hear this, today.”

Investigators say they will report the fetus’s cause of death once results come back from the medical examiner. They spent most of the day investigating the scene to look for evidence and reviewed security footage in the area.
The investigation is still ongoing and no arrests have been confirmed.
