Indonesia To Criminalize Sex Outside Of Marriage
If you were planning a romantic getaway to Indonesia, think again because they plan on banning sex outside of marriage!
Indonesia is getting ready to pass a highly controversial new penal code that would criminalize consensual sex outside of marriage.
The draft code, which will also punish people for insulting the president, could be introduced as soon as next week.
“Indonesia’s draft criminal code is disastrous not only for women and religious and gender minorities, but for all Indonesians,” said Andreas Harsono, senior Indonesia researcher at Human Rights Watch, “Lawmakers should remove all the abusive articles before passing the law.”
A separate article also says that couples who are living together outside of marriage could be sentenced to six months in jail.
This would also have significant consequences for the LGBTQ community as same-sex couples would be severely targeted.
