#Socialites, check this out! A couple of months ago, Instagram announced that they were going to start hiding likes. The social media app began testing the new hidden feature in places like Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Japan, and New Zealand. Instagram explained that removing public likes would possibly make the user experience better, with less pressure to rack up such a big amount of likes.

While we didn’t hear a lot of commotion during the test run out of the country, folks in the U.S have already started complaining as it’s just been announced that IG is ready to give it another try.

CEO Adam Mosseri made the announcement on Friday at WIRED25, explaining that the platform will experiment with hiding likes for US-based accounts starting next week! Mosseri says Instagram will slowly roll out the changes, removing publicly visible engagement metrics for a limited number of IG accounts.

”What we’re hoping to do is depressurize Instagram a little bit, and make it a bit less of a competition,” Instagram boss Adam Mosseri told Bloomberg. “The idea is to try and reduce anxiety and social comparisons, specifically with an eye towards young people.”
