This is heartbreaking news for everyone who had been sending prayers and well wishes throughout the morning once reports stated that he was still alive on life support. However, later Monday morning, the family released a statement saying that he would be taken off of life support today.

Fans and close celebrity friends have been paying tribute to the legendary director and screenwriter of films such as “Boyz n the Hood,” “Poetic Justice” and “Baby Boy” ever since he was hospitalized last week after suffering what was described as a “major stroke” on April 17. Some stars like Tyrese, Nick Cannon, Spike Lee and more have continued following the devastating news.

While this is an extremely hard time for Singleton’s family, they want to let the world know to pay attention to signs of hypertension which Singleton quietly suffered from for years.

“Like many African Americans, Singleton quietly struggled with hypertension. More than 40% of African American men and women have high blood pressure, which also develops earlier in life and is usually more severe. His family wants to share the message with all to please recognize the symptoms by going to”

The 51-year-old Oscar-nominated director will be missed.
